Recently there have been three astronomical phenomena occurring within days of each other. This is extremely rare.
1. The solar eclipse Why do you need to be careful and what should you do to protect yourself if you are watching an eclipse outside? Did you see it on TV? What words would you use to describe it? Can you explain what was happening? How long ago was the last solar eclipse, when will the next one occur?
2. The spring equinox – Saturday 21st March – when day and night is roughly equal. What happens at Stonehenge on 21st March? Which do you prefer – winter or spring? Why? What are the signs in nature that spring is arriving?
3. A supermoon – when the moon is at its closest point to Earth. How many different words/similes can you think of to describe the moon? Would you like to go to the moon? Who was the first person to walk on the moon, what did he say?
