4th-6th January 1945 The Japanese Launch and number of effective Kamikaze attacks on the U.S. Pacific Fleet.
27th January 1945 The Soviet Red Army liberates the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz, Poland.
30th January 1945 The Red Army have reached the Oder River; Berlin is within striking distance.
23rd February 1945 U.S. flag is raised on the island of Iwo Jima after a bloody battle.
22nd-31st March 1945 Major Allied crossing of the Rhine River begins.
1st April 1945 The U.S. invasion of Okinawa commences.
12th April 1945 President Roosevelt dies. HarryTruman takes over as president of the United States.
16th April 1945 The Red Army launch a massive offensive to capture Berlin the capital of Germany. 28th April the Red Army are in central Berlin.
30th April 1945 Hitler commits suicide in his Berlin bunker with Eva Braun.
7th May 1945 Germany surrender unconditionally. The war in Europe is over.
11th-12th May 1945 U.S. forces launch a major offensive on the Okinawa. 27th May infantry and Marines secure most of Naha.
5th July 1945 General MacArthur announces that the Philippines are now liberated from Japanese control.
26th July 1945 Winston Churchill loses the general election mainly due to his domestic policies. Clement Atlee takes over as Prime Minister.
2nd August 1945 The Potsdam Conference ends with the Allied decision to use the Atomic Bomb on Japan.
6th-9th August 1945 The B29 Superfortress Bomber Enola Gay drops an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Killing 70,000 people and injuring the same number.
9th August 1945 Another bomb is dropped on Nagasaki in Japan. It is devastated by the device. Around 35,000 are killed and 60,000 injured.
2nd September 1945 The Japanese Surrender aboard the U.S. battleship Missouri.
2nd September 1945 World War Two ends.
